The inaugural Quilts in the Garden event was organized by Sue Hopkins Van Zant and Dale Neilly and held in Sue’s country garden. The unique quilt show which exuded colour and creativity, raised an amazing $6924.85 for Bethell Hospice.
The event was held in memory of the late Pam Neilly who was an avid quilter and member of the Dufferin Piecemakers Quilting Guild. At Pam’s funeral, each person was handed a swath of fabric as they entered. Pam’s brother told a wonderful story about how the people in the church represented such a wide and varied connection to Pam and her extended families….just like a quilt. The fabric was then collected and a number of members from the guild spent many days creating quilts (5 of them in total) as a gesture of friendship and their love of quilting.
