310 Running, a not-for-profit athletics club born in Bolton in 2009, operates with the admirable goal of creating athletes for life by fostering a love of sports. One of 310 Running’s original coaches, Don Olson, had been in a race to stay ahead of cancer for a little more than two years. He amazed everyone by continuing to live his life to the fullest including competing in one last Ironman triathlon in Florida in November 2012. Don crossed the finish line for the last time on April 18th, 2013 at home with his family.
To honour Don, 310 Running renamed its annual fall race the ‘Don Olson Classic’. At Don’s request, all proceeds each year are directed to the Bethell Hospice Foundation. The race has become a popular staple of the cross country race circuit, offering a spectacular course through Albion Hills Conservation Area just north of Bolton, and one of the most generous prizing structures around.
